Protect Your Castle: Our Tips for Firearm Safety at Home

Firearm safety at home

Owning a firearm and keeping it at home is your right as an American citizen. It’s also your responsibility to ensure your firearm safety at home for both yourself and your loved ones.

At Frontier Justice, we are proud to educate our community about firearm ownership, including keeping up with firearm safety at home. Make sure your loved ones are safe while exercising your Second Amendment right by following these tried-and-true tips.

Properly store your firearm when not in use

Keeping your tool safely unloaded and stored is an important part of firearm safety at home. If you own a firearm, you should also own a firearm safe or other storage option that is only accessible by you and the others in your home who you trust with the firearm.

The last thing you want is for your firearm to fall into the wrong hands. Whether that’s an intruder to your home or a curious child, it’s incredibly important to safely and properly store your firearm.

Know the rules of firearm safety

There are a lot of nuances for firearm safety, but we find it easiest to break down general firearm safety into four fundamental rules.

  • Always assume the firearm is loaded
  • Always point the firearm in a safe direction
  • Keep your finger off the trigger until ready to fire
  • Always know what you’re shooting at, and what’s behind your target

More on the fundamental rules of firearm safety

These rules don’t stand alone from each other, either. They all work together to promote proper firearm safety, at home and outside of your home. You assume your firearm is always loaded, so you keep it pointed in a safe direction, with your finger off the trigger, and before firing you consider not only your target, but what lies beyond. If you leave one rule out but follow the other three, you have failed to safely handle that firearm and could endanger someone’s life or your own.

Take a safety class with your family

Understanding your firearm is an important part of firearm safety at home, but ensuring your family also understands the ins and outs of firearm handling is also crucial.

Taking a firearms safety course can introduce your family to firearms in a safe and controlled environment. We offer a variety of classes that teach firearm safety, including a class specifically tailored toward giving children and their parents a positive first firearms experience while instilling safe handling and shooting techniques.

Frontier Justice is dedicated to firearm safety education

As proponents and supporters of your Second Amendment rights, we are completely dedicated to teaching our community about proper and safe firearm operation. We believe safe and responsible firearm ownership helps keep our communities safe.
